"Let's create my own 'Meon'!"
Setouchi Triennale (Megijima Island)
2025.8.9

Content
The Meon ferry operated by Meojima Kaiun is a vital mode of transportation connecting Megijima Island and Takamatsu, and is also a symbol of the island.
In this workshop, we attempted to give shape to the participants' imaginations, using the "Meon" ship as a motif.
concept
This workshop is an attempt to visualize the future images that each participant envisions, starting with "Meon," a real ship that connects islands and people.
The current sixth-generation "Meon" (launched on February 28, 2021) features red and white stripes. Participants were asked to freely draw their vision of "Meon's future" using plastic sheets as the material. The completed works were immediately transformed into keychains, photographed for documentation, and the image data was incorporated into a virtual space called "inner space" created by the artists, where it was repositioned as an entity sailing the seas around the virtual Megijima Island.
The "future Meon" characters created by the participants were later shown on monitors in the cafe, navigating a virtual ocean, providing an experience where the real-world creation process connected to a digital narrative.
By connecting real-world creative activities with virtual space, individual imaginations are expanded beyond time and space.
The aim was to create a space where personal memories and emotions can be shared in a public space (a virtual ocean) through the interplay between matter and image, and between reality and virtuality.
