I created a paper sculpture inspired by Haniwa (ancient Japanese clay figures) and enclosed a letter to my future self inside.
The completed artwork was displayed alongside the artist's other works throughout the exhibition period.
concept
The artist created paper sculptures (UMA/OTOKO) based on Haniwa (ancient Japanese clay figures), completing them through the processes of coloring, cutting, and assembling. During the creation process, a "letter to my future self 10 years from now" was sealed inside, and the finished works were displayed alongside the artist's other works during the exhibition period.
The process consisted of approximately 120 minutes and was carried out in stages.
This workshop is an attempt to reconsider the relationship between time and the self, inspired by the idea that Haniwa (clay figures) placed in ancient burial mounds were meant to leave something for the future. Participants will create paper sculptures and enclose letters to their future selves inside, experiencing the act of passing on their current emotions and thoughts to the future. The creation process proceeds in stages, resulting in a structure where the physical form of the sculpture is connected to the words it contains.
The completed works are incorporated into the exhibition space, transforming it into a place where individual moments and memories are shared with others, with the aim of reconstructing the relationship between "inside and outside" and "individual and public."
