Solo Exhibition
"Mother River, Mother Mountain, A Journey Following the Map"
2019.9.27-11.5
Mogamigawa Art Museum and Keiji Mashimo Memorial Museum

A solo exhibition held at the Mogamigawa Museum of Art / Keiji Mashimo Memorial Museum in Murayama, Yamagata. Centered on the virtual world “inner space” constructed within the computer, the exhibition presented paintings that interwove this digital realm with landscapes and memories of the artist’s hometown in Yamagata.
In this exhibition, symbolic elements of the region—such as the “Mother River” (Mogami River) and the “Mother Mountain”—were connected to the cartographic structure of the virtual world and presented as a fragment of an ever-evolving universe. Through a method that translates three-dimensionally constructed virtual landscapes into two-dimensional paintings, the works articulated an intersection between an inner world and the local environment.
For the artist, the exhibition offered an opportunity to reconsider the current position of her virtual world within a landscape that may be regarded as her original scenery.
