Presented The Studio in the Multi-layered World at ICC, a project that layered the artist’s physical studio with a virtual space constructed within the computer. The work extended the production environment itself into the online sphere, proposing a situation in which physical and networked spaces intersect in multiple layers.
Conceived during the pandemic, the project addressed transformations in viewing conditions, perception, and exhibition formats. Through an online residency and related activities, it examined new modes of spatial experience premised on the circulation between the real and the virtual.

"Mentality Sketch: The Studio in the Multi-layered World"
Harada constructs a fictional world in 3DCG within the computer and moves back and forth between this virtual realm and the physical world, translating landscapes from the virtual space into paintings. For this project, she layered her actual studio—where she produces her paintings—with the artist’s studio situated inside the virtual world.
The painting process was continuously documented and presented as a “live production” during the exhibition period of Open Space 2021: New Flatland, in a gallery space designed to resemble her studio. The process of public production was further fed back into the virtual environment; as Harada continued painting, the landscape within the virtual world evolved in parallel.
In the online exhibition version, viewers could watch the complete video documentation of the studio process and freely navigate the 3DCG world corresponding to each day of production.
